Thankful for Scor Pal

I just made a quick pretty box for cookies with nothing more than Scor Pal and leftover embellishments. It really weighs on me to have lots of bits and ends from other projects. I like order and hate hoarding, so I love that i can clear out a lot of supplies by making boxes and treat boxes. What will you be doing with your scraps this holiday

Take a 12.x12 piece of paper or cardstock score at 2 inches and at 10 inches turn paper 90 degree and score at 2 inches and 10 inches also. At top of paper, slit the vertical score line only up to the horizonal scoreline do the same at the bottom. Fold into box secure with your ATG or whatever you use as an adhesive. box bottom will be about 8 x 8 inches.

Now for the top, take 10 by 10 piece of paper. Score at 3/4 of an inch all around like you did with the bottom. Slit vertical scorelines at top and bottom only to the horizontal line fold into box shape. Secure with your ATG. Finished top will be about 8.5 x 8.5 inches
If you have a cricut, you can cut a shape in the middle of your 10 x 10 peice for a see-through hole that you can back with clear acetate or vellum.
Embellish.

Suggested Supplies

Coordinated Cardstock 8.5x11
One sheet should be solid
Ribbon
Corner Rounder
Scor-Pal
Cricut Expression
Gypsy
Wild Card Cartridge*
Wrap-It Up Cartridge*
A Child’s Year*

*Any cartridge with multiple wedding images and tags.

Use Scor Pal to score one 8.5 by 11 sheet in half along the 4.25 groove.
Cut 8.5x11” paper in half to have two 5.1/2 x 8”
Score one of the halves of paper at the small dots on Scor-Pal at 2 1/8 and 6 3/8
Put that in the Cricut and hallow out a heart shape.( or cut by hand).

Now glue the two halves together along the 5 ½” inch sides. Fold the inner layer and the outer layers along their respective center score lines so the inner layer is folded toward you and the outer layer away from you. Put aside

Cut Bride and Groom from Wild Card at 3.5 wide. Place on front of the card.

Cut the “Congratulations” from Wrap It Up at 3 inches wide. Cut two tags from A Child’s Year one at 3.25 inches and the other at 3 inches. Layer these cuts and decorate with ribbon. Place on top of the Bride and Groom icon.

Cut the double wedding ring from Wild Card at 3 inches. Score in half, then attach to the outside of the hallow heart shape. Cut “Mr and Mrs.” phrase from Wrap It Up and score in half then glue beneath the heart shape. Add embellishments

Scrapbooking is my journal and journaling is about contemplating life so it is worth living. Scrapbooking also has an element of legacy--the books we creat will live longer than we will. So I have been musing over legacy and life and I think big changes are on the way.

So Busy Scrapping Had No Time to Blog

A friend reminded me that I had a blog. And, what do you know, I do have one. And I want to start where I left off--with the YourStory. Even though I haven’t blogged for over a year, doesn’t mean that I haven’t crafted. In fact, last year was my most productive one so far for me. I completed over 100 hundred scrapbook pages and about 200 cards.

One big reason I was able to get more done than ever before, is that I bought a YourStory by ProvoCraft. YourStory is a bookbinding system that uses glue as the binder.

Just owning one changed my scrapping life. As soon as I bought one, I could complete projects in a weekend and books in an hour. For example in my last post, that Christmas I hosted family from out of town, I took pictures on Christmas, then the next day, went to a convenience store printed them out. After printing multiple copies of each picture, I was able to send completed scrapbooks home with my guests. Think of it—send the book home with them—no waiting, no shipping, no next year apologies. Beautiful.

The magic is in YourStory binders, the spine has a glue that when heated becomes soft allowing pages to be set in the glue. Once the glue cools, it hardens and holds the pages in a professional looking binder. The system is simple and can be use for many types of projects.

I have used it for recipes, workshop instructions and even a book of all the art work my students did for me. In other words, the YourStory system goes well beyond scrapbook binding—it is a book binding system, portable simple and most of complete.

And yet it doesn’t do everything. But before I go on, I need you to read and I want you to hear, the YourStory is the most valuable asset of my scrapbooking tools outside of paper, photos and my Cricut. It changed my life, made me more productive, bolstered my family relationships by allowing me to give legacy gifts in short turn around time.

Done Feels Good--Christmas Photos in Scrapbooks before New Years

Never thought I could be one of those people. the kind that can do a book before the guest leave. But with your story, I am.

Done. Scrapped my christmas pictures already and sent little packets of pictures with those who came from out of town to visit. It was a good feeling to give the teenagers brag books so quickly.

Thanks to YourStory my scrap time is way more productive.

With the cricut I was able to label my tables so that people would know where to put the food that they brought.

The cartridge is From My Kitchen which has lots and lots of content on it. I really got a lot for the money.

To make:
I cut in white cardstock the phrase dessert 4 inch in size.
Then I cut the matching oval in the same size.

The holidays are a perfect time to use the Cricut Expression. I have to admit, although this holiday season was supposed to be financially tight, don't hate me, but it didn't feel like it at all. A big part of that was because the CE helped me decorate the house and party tables with more flare than ever.

With the CE I was able to have more fun while making a more festive enviroment and stretch my dollar. In fact, I had so much fun, I would have made toppers and decorations even if I wasn't trying to save money. These Thanksgiving cupcakes are a good example. The cupcakes would have been delicious anyway, but the toppers made them memorable.

To make them you need
A cricut expression
Cardstock of appropriate colors
or double sided card stock if you don't have a CE
Doodlecharms cartridge
Opposites Attract
Plaintain Schoolbook
High heat glue gun or double sided tape

Cut 12 turkey shaped diecuts from the doodlecharms cartridge at 2.5 inches.
Then cut 12 more using the flip key function at 2.5 inches.

Use a coordinating paper to cut 12 plate and drumstick ends at the same size. The machine will calculate and cut at the right proportions.

Cut 12 more using the flip function.

Using a clear adhesive, attach the plate and drumstick ends.

Next using the shadow function key, cut 24 turkeys on double-sided black paper.

Now, sandwich the layers. Place one turkey on your hand, behind it place the black shadow diecut. And then, place a turkey diecut in the "flip" for the back.

Use a dry, paper adhesive to attach the the pieces.

Use a hot glue gun to attach a toothpick to the black shadow insert before attaching the "flip" turkey.

Using the same cartridge cut 6 leaves and six more "on the flip".
With the cartridge called Opposites Attract cut 12 thanks in 1.75.

Cut 6 dialogue bubbles and 6 more on the flip. Assemble your pieces.

Have fun, have the kids help, or do it alone with a glass of wine. Enjoy the holidays while making something they will remember. Oh don't forget to take pictures of the product and of you and the kids putting them together. It will be a favorite holiday memory.

When the holidays come up, I cherish the old days. And that means looking through old photos and getting them scrapbooked. Here are a few that I cherish.

I used the Home Accents Solution cartridge and I am amazed how much a little embellishment adds to the page.

Halloween Treat Bag

These inexpensive treat bags will make the people you give them to feel like a million bucks. Good for adults and children too. Make a bunch and hand them out to co-workers, friends, or your favorite barista.

What you will Need:

One colorful pack of Halloween 12”x12” paper. Double-sided paper is best.
Black paper 12”x12”
Googly Eyes
Chipboard Letters
Cricut Expression machine
Plantin SchoolBook cartridge
Doodlecharms cartridge
Tacky glue and Double-Sided tape

Notes on What You Will Need:
Avoid glitter and flocking paper in the pack of paper.
Also, feel free to substitute at will.

Directions for Making the Bag:
Keep in mind, you will use on full 12x12 sheet of paper for each bag.
Insert Plantin SchoolBook cartridge and secure the accompanying soft overlay.
Load paper into you Cricut Expression
Choose the Round Bag with the Tall Ball function. To do this, see page 80 in included booklet.
Press Quantity button arrow until quantity is 1.
Then press the auto fill button for the maximum size.
Press cut.
Repeat until you have all the bags you need.
Assemble bags with tacky glue and tape. Make sure they can hold treats.

Directions for Making the Spiders
Remove Plantin SchoolBook Cartridge and Overlay and replace with Doodlecharms.
Load Black paper in the machine.
Set Size at 4” inches.
Press auto fill button.
Press cut.
Repeat steps 2-6 until you have as many as you need.

Directions for Decorating bag:
Use a glue runner to attach spiders to each side of each bag, while making sure that the spider is a little of center and toward the top of the bag..
Next use tacky glue to attach Googly eyes one side of bag.
Then attach the chipboard letter of the appropriate initial slight to the side and lower than the spider .and let dry.
Turn bag over and decorate that side.
Put treats in bag.

Cuttlebug

So the cuttlebug is a great tool for adding texture to your layouts. But I am confused about how I should do a video on the cuttlebug. I've watched about 50 videos on the CB and I get bored everytime someone uses film to crank the handle while the camera is staring blankly at a hand going round and round. That doesn't make compelling video, and I amazed no one else has realized how boring and useless that is to the viewer. So I will make a video on the cuttlebug and make sure that part is left out. Why are so many Political signs so sloppily made? Splashed, unevenly painted letters, irregular font. As though the person who holds is angry and slightly unmedicated. Why would anyone join with a cause sloppily presented?

In the day of Obama why do so many people fail to see that if it worth saying it is worth saying neatly? With all the papercrafting tools that exist today, why is any sign made without care? Pazzle, cricut and all other provocraft products could make the debate more clearly stated.

Obama has the right idea. The O of Obama is a red white and blue logo, yes, logo, that emcompasses the stripes of the flag over slightly rolling plain toward the center of the circle implictly pointing to the future.

The perfect logo is shorthand of a brand that communicates wholeness, wholesomeness, with a gentle touch of change in the right direction. Look at the Obama logo today and ask yourself, do I represent the things that I stand for with that kind of respect and professionalism?

This picture is a preview of a video I am doing. For no reason, without warning I need to draw. Not want, need to draw. Maybe what is drawing is not me. Maybe it needs to be drawn and I was there. And so, I can't stop, I know there is no purpose, no real talent and yet I am completely fulfilled when I am drawing. So I invite you to watch as I improve.

Paint Image Transfer

Here is a card that I love and recently gave to a friend. I am using the paint transfer techniquue which is so easy for a brillant professional look.
Here are the steps.

1. On a piece of thick paper, paint a generous layer of acrylic paint.
2. Take your photocopy image and place toner down on the wet paint.
3. Make sure there is contact of the entire on the image to the paint but do not press too hard. Try not to move the layer of paint
4. Allow to dry. This can take up to 6 hours
5. When dry peel the copy paper away.
6. To remove paper, dampen the remaining copy paper and peel away. Careful, don't make it too wet, too much water will make the paint run.
When the image is revealed, embellish and mount.

I Want More Feelings on YouTube

So, I started this HeartNote Series because I wanted to express the way some of the videos make me feel. When you go to a movie, you can go with a friend or even if you go without that friend you can call them and ask if they saw the movie and discuss how it makes you feel.

But not with YouTube. On YouTube I send videos to other friends but rarely do I follow-up with a conversation “How did it make you feel?” The type of discussions on YouTube are passionate, but rarely about feelings, they are about opinions. Even if someone starts a conversation with the words, “I feel…” they are not talking about feelings, they are talking about their opinion, which may not last as long as the life of the video posting.

Through art I can quickly, cheaply express something that is moving through me.
That strong reaction that could sit in my body and disturb me or I can grab the Derwent tin and some paper and go, go, go.
